I started playing volleyball in primary school in Sydney. My high school physical education teacher was passionately involved in developing and coaching young players. It was here as a 14 year old that my passion for the sport was born.

Volleyball was different to all the other sports I had played before, once you serve in play the ball play just doesn’t stop. This for me was exciting as you had only one moment to make the correct skill. Also spiking was completely new and I enjoyed hitting as hard as I could. The challenges of playing volleyball grew with time.

I moved to Canberra where I was involved in the ACT Academy of Sport. This gave me a chance to train every day, play at the highest level in Australia and also travel to all the other states competing against the best players in Australia. It was here that I was noticed and was picked in the Australian Junior Team. The following year (1994), I started on scholarship in Sydney with the Australian Team.

With Australia I have had some experiences that have really been major highlights of my life. Not only travelling the world (from Argentina to South Africa, Russia to Japan, and most places in between and several times over) and competing in the Olympic Games, but just the comradeship and friendship that comes with it. It has been and continues to be a great experience for me, and it really has opened my eyes to international volleyball.
